The first prize of £10,000 was awarded to the Arcadia Quartet [Ana Török, violin; Rasvan Dumitru, violin; Traian Boala, viola; Zsolt Török, cello]. The Romanian quartet impressed both audience and adjudicators alike with their rendition of Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in A minor Op.13 No.2.

All the finalists were judged on the quality of their performance throughout the competition, and the winners also took the Beethoven Prize based on their performance in the all-Beethoven semi-final.

Formed in 2006 inCluj,Romania, a city with a rich musical heritage, the Arcadia Quartet recently completed their studies at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst inVienna. As part of their prize they look forward to a Wigmore Hall recital, as well as aUKtour beginning in Autumn 2013.”
