27th Mozart International Music Competition

In 2021, the Mozart Society in Romania organizes the 27th edition of the International Mozart Competition. This edition is designed for singers and collaborative pianists who distinguish themselves through outstanding performances of the Mozart vocal repertoire.

 

GENERAL INFORMATIONS

  1. The 2021 Mozart Competition is an exclusively virtual event, accessible on the Mozart Society website www.mozart-romania.ro, as well as on the Mozart International Competition platform www.festivalul-mozart.ro. There will be two rounds:

 

1st  Round, eliminatory – 12th November

2nd Round, finals – 14th November

 

  1. Both rounds are open and accessible to the public.
  2. A maximum of 5 duos will be admitted to the 2nd Round.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. The Mozart International Vocal Competition is open to young singers and collaborative pianists of any nationality, born after the 12th November 1991.
  2. The registration fee for the singers, as well as for the pianists born after 12th November 1991 who wish to run for the Special Prize, is 50 Euros. Payment can be made until the 5th of November 2021, via bank transfer in the account RO27 BTRL 0130 4205 9599 83XX (Societatea Română Mozart), open at Banca Transilvania Cluj, Romania. The transfer must mention the candidate’s name followed by “Mozart Vocal Competition”. The applicants will join the bank receipt to the application. The registration fee is non-refundable, even if the competitor withdraws from the competition.
  3. The application is based on the following documents that the competitors will send by email before the 5th November 2021 to mozartromania@gmail.com:

– complete application form

– bank receipt of application fee

– 2 video recordings (one for each round). Each artist must upload unedited videos of their performances to YouTube and provide the URL links with their application. In the description box the competitors must clearly indicate the chosen programme and the names of both singer and collaborative pianist.

All incomplete applications will be rejected.

 

REPERTOIRE

  1. Each competitor will perform the following works:

 

1st Round, eliminatory:

  1. One lieder by W. A. Mozart, of choice amongst: „Sehnsucht nach dem Frühling”, KV 596; „Der Frühling”, KV 597; „Das Kinderspiel”, KV598; „Ich würd’ auf meinen Pfad”, KV 390/340c.
  2. One aria by W. A. Mozart (concert or operatic), of choice (different from the ones in the 2nd Round)

2nd Round, final:

  1. Two lieder by W. A. Mozart, of choice (different from the ones in the 1st Round)
  2. Two operatic arias by W. A. Mozart, of choice.

 

  1. Singers must perform all the musical works by memory.
  2. The video recordings must be recorded in one unedited take. The recording must be made in fixed camera setting and the frame must include the whole body of the singer and also the hands of the pianist and the piano keyboard. Recordings that do not meet these requirements will lead to disqualification.
  3. We advise competitors to use the Bärenreiter editions revised by Ernst August Ballin (BA5330). Transposition of lieder is allowed if necessary.

 

PRIZES

1st Prize – 10.000 lei (aprox.2000 Euro), a recital in the Mozart International Festival Cluj-Napoca, a concert with the “Dinu Lipatti” Philharmonic Orchestra of Satu-Mare (Romania)

2nd Prize – 7.500 lei (aprox. 1500 Euro)

3rd Prize – 5.000 lei (aprox. 1000 Euro)

Special Prize for best collaborative pianist (born after 12th November 1991) – 5.000 lei (aprox. 1000 Euro)

  1. Competitors admitted to the 2nd Round which are not awarded a prize will receive a certificate of participation.

 

JURY

  1. The Jury will be composed of remarcable Romanian and international musical personalities

The adjudicators’ decisions are final and may not be challenged. The adjudicators reserve the right not to declare prizes.

There will be no ex aequo prizes
